An OUTDOORSmagic article purporting to offer a range of commemorative foot and mouth epidemic figurines was yesterday branded 'crass' and 'offensive' by a spokesperson for Lakeland lovers organisation 'Friends of the Fells'.

Arturo Pinguino, the man behind the recent Lakes lawnmower inititiative blasted OUTDOORSmagic saying: 'I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across what at first appears to be a perfectly normal advertisement for decorative figurines.

'It was only when I read further that I realised the whole thing was a crass attempt to make money out of a terrible epidemic. The whole thing is crass and offensive.'

OUTDOORSmagic editor Jon Doran responded: 'Since we invented both Arturo Pinguino and the Lakes lawnmower initiative ourselves, we are unsurprised by these comments. Furthermore, we refuse to view criticism from a purely fictional character with any degree of seriousness and if he persists in this foolishness, I will personally punch his lights out.'
