Good news from the giant Ratho Adventure Centre at Ratho near
Edinburgh, not only has the heavy machinery been cleared from the
massive climbing arena formed by the covered quarry, but you can now
eat out on pizza produced in a real, wood-fired oven in the now
fully-operational Stone Room Cafe.

Not just a pretty climbing wall -
more Ratho facilities
are coming on line every week. Today? Pizza
:-)

When we got a scoop
preview of the centre last year, we were blown away, not just by
the scale of the climbing arena - which is massive and feels more
outdoors than in - but by the overall vision of the facility, which
is multi-sport and promises to be much more than 'just' a climbing
wall.
The Stone Room restaurant produces, they reckon, 'arguably the
best pizza base this side of Rome' but also offers fireside dining
complete with leather loungers, hot pancakes and beer. Sounds like a
great post-training option and joins the Ledge Cafe in the Gore-Tex
Arena.
More Climbing, More Training...
Before the heavy cranes left the building, the route setters put
up and extra 30 routes on the main competition wall giving even more
scope for hard indoor climbing. In addition, the Adventure Sports Gym
is up and running with a whole range of classes kicking in over the
coming weeks. Looks good.
Evening Lectures Too
There's also a programme of evening lectures in February with
speakers like top climber Steve McClure. More details on the web
site.
More Details
If you're local to Ratho or plan to be just passing by, you can
get full details of the facilities, costs, opening hours etc at the
Ratho
