With the weather looking up, staying hydrated on the hill is even more important than usual.

We're probably going to regret saying this, but with the weather looking up, staying hydrated on the hill is even more important than usual. Did you know that a 5 per-cent drop in hydration levels can cause a 30 per-cent decline in your physical performance?

That's the difference between a great day out and a truly hideous day of unnecessary suffering. And because we know you'd prefer the former, here are our top tips to staying hydrated.

Also hot on the site at the moment are our hot scoop of Berghaus's new 2008 kit plus this week's all-time classic mountain walk.

Have a great outdoors weekend and don't forget to keep drinking...

    Paramo Fuera Smock
'I think it's a brilliant bit of kit - feels really protective against the elements and I have been out in pretty heavy rain in mine and remained dry. I've treated it with Nikwax since I've had it and water beads on it still. Money well spent!'
    The North Face Hedgehog
'So far they have ticked all the boxes for me! They are extremely comfy and waterproof (have been submerged in a river), and sturdy enough for a run across the heath close to where I live. No complaints.'
    Meindl Lhotse GTX
'They have been used in white out with crampons on Ben Nevis and on back packing treks in the Black Mountains. They were excellent for both. They get better each time I wear them.'
