We wouldn't normally suggest that you spend your weekend watching telly, but the BBC is serving up a treat this weekend in the form of The Great Climb, a live outdoors broadcast from the Cairngorms featuring nine climbers on four routes and including something best described as new and desperate. Think the classic Old Man of Hoy live broadcasts - Bonington, Whillans, Brown, Patey and all - revisited and you won't go far wrong.

And while we're being voyeuristic, the updated gallery upload system is working a treat with some lovely new images being uploaded over the past few days, join us for a virtual world tour.

And finally, if you simply must go out into the August nastiness - yes, it really is summer - this week's OM route is a witchy one...

Have a great outdoors weekend,

Jon and the team at OUTDOORSmagic.com
