Previous comments have summed up so much about the event very well. I would just like to add my thanks to everyone involved in putting on the event - first class job. Thank you. People may be interested in a wider perspective. I read through the local paper on Mon evening (News and Star in West Cumbria). Lowther Show at Penrith was called off on its final day on Sunday for the first time in its history. The showfield was an "impassable quagmire". There was also an article re Wasdale Mountain Rescue calling for 3 Peaks walkers to "stop wasting our time". They have had an increased number of callouts related to underprepared charity walkers. "It would be fair to say that the ones we meet underestimate what's involved, particularly at night". 25 rescuers spent 7 hours looking for 9 people on Saturday. I mention these because it underlines the professionalism, competency, dedication and integrity of everyone involved with the Lakeland 100. Despite testing conditions people conducted themselves superbly. Delighted to have been part of it. Mand H. Your navigational skills are second to none. I am sorry my ability to navigate by the stars and direction of migrating birds was rather less useful..... Did you see our time for leg 3? What did we eat at Boot? - or was that when panic set in about meeting the cutoffs!! I think we may have paid for it later on..... Glad we carried on at CP6 and managed the 50miles. |

Andy xls is a Microsoft Excel file and you may be getting the message if Excel is not on your computer. I am not sure if Marc is able to post the list in a different format. Mand H Whitehaven eh? ...I had also expected more entries from this part of the world....my current abode is Workington. Does my number make you feel any better about yours? ......mine is #13.... All competitors Good luck! Hope you all make it round. Not sure if I can/will...but I will enjoy having a go. Marc Thanks in advance for creating this opportunity. At last I have been able to stop thinking about robbing banks and winning lotteries to get the airfare to the states for one of these (100 milers). |

Team Hurtmore Good ideas about GPS. I promise not to sue!! Ultimately there is only me that can get me lost. I prefer to think on it as being temporarily unsure of where I am but never lost! I bought the etrex because originally it seemed to be compulsory. It will be handy as a backup. I have figured some things out. The gpx files can be simplified (with some loss of detail) and merged with various bits software to fit on to etrex. My guess is that unless the entry is very small (we'll know Monday) there will be plenty of company so early in the event. I hope you enjoy the night section and that it is one night out for you not two. Good luck. |

Any etrex H experts out there!? Bought one for the 100 but having problems getting whole route on. Can only upload 10 saved tracks to this device. Need 17 tracks the way the route is split on competitors page. Garmin website confirms this limit on saved tracks for etrex H. I have tried uploading whole route (also the 50) and both get truncated when I do. Are these files too big for etrex H? Garmin website says etrex H will allow 10,000 points for a track log. Sounds like enough!! I used freeware mapping program called OKMap to upload the gpx files. Any ideas most welcome otherwise back to more traditional methods.... |

Plain boiled/baked potatoes and/or boiled rice for carbos and I'm very happy. Bananas and lentil soup also great (that is two items not a new recipe idea). Thanks Marc for undertaking this. My stomach is "selective" at the best of times and prior information about food availability is invaluable. |
