I use a PB207 lighter (jet flame style) to light my esbit blocks, no problem getting them started
On the welsh ride thing recently I ran out of meths but had two esbit blocks individually wrapped in clingfilm in my mini frame along with my tools and bits. So pleased I had it, worked a treat.
I use a Vaseline tin meths stove which I know isn't that efficient but it packs down tiny and means I can use esbit no problem. Also fits in my Pocket Stove Ti which in turns fits in my snow peak cup so happy days all round
Big fan of my speedcross 2s. Walking on tarmac feels a bit fidgety/floaty but great grip all round I found
My merrells with vibram soles are horrendous in the wet. I slipped on the platform of a tube station whilst wearing them and trying to make a train, not a good moment
Interesting about your views on your new pair. I have some Salomons I wear for normal knocking around in, not sure which ones, and they've been great, apart from having a bit too much mesh so when its wet my feet get soaked.
Will keep an eye on this thread. Want something good in the wet but in reality will get used around town more than any real walking (but often might be on wet slippy stuff)
