Just got back from a trip where my trusty Mountain Hardware Apporoach tent stood up to some serious weather and kept me dry, however, the poles did not fare quite so well. The tent is now 5 years old so you expect wear and tear and fortunately no damage was done to the material but I need to replace the poles before I can use it again. 3 split and 1 totally destroyed. Due to its age I want to replace both long sections but am having difficulty locating a supplier in the UK. Are there any alternatives to Easton that are as light and as strong. What kind of cost am I looking at or would I be better off replacing the whole tent?
I am in the very early stages of planning a two month trip in NZ and have been trying to find out whether they stock Snow Peak gas cannisters. I have the Giga Power ti stove and would like to take it with me. Does anybody have any experience of cooking with gas down under and can I substitute the Snow Peak canisters for another brand (safetly).
I have just bought a Katadyn PF for a three month trip this summer. It is essential for the area I will be in but having read the previous thread on water purification I am a bit confused as to whether I also need to add iodine or something similar to clean the water. The literature says it takes out everything down to 0.2 microns including all the the really nasty bugs. Can anyone shed some light on this for me as I will be using it for drinking water as well as cooking and washing etc and had not planned on having to boil it all before using it.
