ps. I said: "or from a specialised battery store on the Internet selling (the same rubbish?) at vastly enhanced prices." - same stuff at inflated price = NOT all of a sudden BETTER QUALITY because a European company is lining their pockets.
One thing that's help is a list of experiences, which 18650 batteries & chargers people have been happy with, which ones folk recommend to avoid like the plague
"oh hang on ...you want cheap AND quality...." - yes, that's what we all want, isn't it??? But, as any fule kno, rarely found. And I never said anything about cheap & quality, I was just asking can one get these thingies from an ordinary shop rather than having to order them via the Internet. I have read that laptops use these batteries - but I don't have spare laptops from which to disconnect them and that doesn't solve the problem of having a charger.
The lygte-info link that Franco sent shows that 18650 batteries/cells come in different lengths and thicknesses! I have 'AAA' batteries here of different lengths & thicknesses - those from our local shop, which I'd describe as standard size, seen them many times before - and some from China which came with a free torch the bank gave me when I opened an account with them, and these are thinner & shorter and don't work in other things that take AAAs because they dinna reach the contacts!
That just makes things more confusing - I wonder if I kept the packet, perhaps the length, diameter of body, and diameter of head for the 18650 battery I need is printed upon it?!
Are there no shops in England where one can just walk in and say "I'd like a 18650 battery for this thing 'ere?" ?
Recently I bought lights for my bike, Cree T6 or somesuch. The back light takes AAA batteries but the front one wants 18650 batteries. I have only seen these on Ebay (all sent from China) or from a specialised battery store on the Internet selling (the same rubbish?) at vastly enhanced prices.
Are there no shops where one can simply walk in and buy these re-chargable 18650 batteries + charger?
What brands are OK, which ones to avoid? Are the Chinese 'burning' us by making products that take only batteries that are available only from China?
