Yup as above, plus try making your own dehydrated food - that way you get to eat what you like and it's light and pans clean up real easy when you're just rehydrating and heating stuff through - very little chance of stuff cooking onto pan bottom even in Ti pans...

+1 again for what mole says.  Can't go wrong with Gransfor Bruks axe wise. Bill hooks are also ace and can be had cheaply if lucky. How are your sharpening skills though?

Laufbursche Huckepack. c 59l all in, 450g dyneema gridstop. That's it...big enough for a winter multiday backpack, light and compressible enough to use as a daysack. Love it..

Yup sloe gin makes any trip that bit more special . Good to hear the Talon 44 is working well for you Skip!

Dave, some solid kit recommendations already but can I recommend getting a couple of books...mike clelland's 'ultralight backpacking tips' and don ladigans 'going lighter'. Both are inexpensive and offer common sense, doen to earth insights on kit, it's usage, and combination so as to save both weight and cash. I believe both are available as ebooks so you can save weight and pack space and put them on your phone!
