Paddy, most kids these days don't stand a chance the fact its coming from a school is even more shocking. The again Scotland is hardly known for its cuisine well not unless you include deep fried Mars bars FX:Gag

It would depend on the situation. i.e. where was I, where was I going and what kit was wet.

for example: normally I'd only expect the fly to be wet and so would place all the dry bits in the pack and carry the fly on the outside with the intention if possible to dry it out during the day. Flies will dry pretty quickly especially in windy conditions a lunch stop is idea. Same for Gore-tex jackets/trousers they can be carried on the outside till needed or can be dried.

Its not rocket science but I try to pack my pack in a way that the most used or likely to be used items are as close to the top as possible. I'll open it in the most sheltered place available and stand over it using my body to protect the contents as much as possible. A few spot of rain isn't the end of the world.

I'm not going to say that I'm worried how I'm going to be paying this months mortgage or gas/electrity bill but I'm not this International CEO of a multi-national that some people seem to peg me at. I see the value of things. I don't smoke, drink very moderately and generally live very normally. I suspect if more people stopped being lazy buying sandwiches and ready meals taking taxi's etc then they too could spend more on the nicer things in life.
