im liking the idea of just using my HH hammock on the ground when there are no trees - although i would have to upgrade to the lighter version i think - and just use the hammock with its built in noseeum mesh as the nest.....even using the light weight version of the expedition hammock (im lanky so need the extra room) it still weighs in well over 1300grams.....but then by the time i get my tarp (it aint the lightest at 800g.....the bivvy, and then add some mosquito protection. then it would be about the same except i wouldnt have the luxury of being able to hang off the ground.
i use some trek towel type thing i picked up - its crap as a towel - but excellent as a scarf, added foot insulation, pillow cover, sun shade / eye shade (for those mid trail naps, and yes the occasional drying off of ones self - it folds up so stuipdly small and has a little pouch that has a belt loop...... come to think of it, it folds up reallly small so small i've just relised i have no idea where on earth it is....... as for other bits and bobs, there is tonnes you can take, and mos you wont need, its about finding a balance, you just got to remeber that you have to carry anything you take.
how tough is the UL7? i understand for its weight and such that its not going to be as tough as heavier models, but im concerend about its endurance over a long trek.
Think i will just have to try it out - but i really like the look of the Exped UL 7 and that weighs in about the same as my sugpack but looks a hell of a lot more comfortable......will have to see what i can a) sell to get the cash and b) get out of the pack to make up for the extra weight....
