I got a new bookeen from cash converters for £25 it had a cover, uses epub etc books, is very light and the screen changes from portrait to landscape. has 120 books pre-loaded ('classics' and extracts from modern ones, so maybe not the best for an 11-year old).
I've found that two baselayers compress each other, so there's not as much air trapped (I presume). Also, clean clothes and clean body , wearing a warm hat, pull it down over your face a bit...warm drink before going to bed
more thoughts..photon isn't as warm as the others, though nice to have the hood.
