If some radiators are warm then it is unlikely to be the valve - that just directs hot water from the boiler to either the hot water, heating or both (unless your heating is very advanced and has a valve between upstairs and downstairs).

Symptoms of faulty valve therefore are heating working but no hot water or vice versa.

Also, can't see how it could be 'sludge' - hot water has to go round the system to get upstairs, unless every downstairs radiator is 'gunked' but none of the upstaits ones are.

Sounds like the pump to me - upstairs radiators will get warm through convection in the heating system.

Does the pump make any noise (and did it before) i.e. can you hear it when it should be pumping water?

This is based on previous experience with my own faulty heating - not any plumbing knowledge!

I have as much faith in the ShangriLa3 as any of my other tents (including Ultra Quasar).

Due to the shape stability isn't dependant on wind/pitch direction.

The only caveat is that as it is not free standing stability is dependent on suitable pegging (but most tents are like this).

There are plenty of 'testimonials/reviews' in Golite Shangri La 3/Hex 3 Owners thread

Go-lite Hex3 [shangri-la]?

bags of room, lightweight[ish]. 3-4 seasons, adaptable

downsides: no porch. net inner.

 +1

Tried a Voyager for 2 and found it very cosy - ShangriLa 3 has loads more room - and lighter (if you are already carrying trekking poles).

I thought the lack of porch would be a problem - but now I don't miss it at all.

>The 100g weighs 275g, but the 250g weighs 365g.

Going to have to chip in here:

for the 100g gas can, the metal bit weighs 175g

for the 250g gas can, the metal bit weighs 115g

so the larger canister (ignoring gas itself) is lighter??

not comparing like for like here methinks

oh yes and what about tents that pitch inner first??

In the rain you still (normally) pitch the inner first - the inners don't melt when they get wet!

In light rain the inner should barely get damp (usually the inner can be pitched in 2 - 3 minutes, the outer then covers it while finishing pitching).

In heavy rain the outside of the inner will get wet, but is unlikely to get wet inside (even if the inner is mostly mesh).

In very heavy rain it may also get wet inside the inner, in which case you give it a quick wipe with a cloth (the same one you have for mopping minor spills or condensation).

You can try and hide the inner under the fly when pitching, but this often makes it takes so much longer that things get wetter than just getting on with it.

All my previous tents have been inner first, and for me inner/outer first is a non issue.
