I have looked at this a fair bit and got a book about Chi running, I reckon there is a good chance of injury as you correct technique and give new muscle areas stress.The Chi running posture does feel pretty good but an injury would upset my walking plans so I concentrate more on a good posture rahter than chancing shoes.
I came to the conclusion your brain knows what it is doing and programmes your footfall to suit your body type and shape.
Certainly I feel carrying multi day backpacks is pretty much out with 'barefoot shoes' though I know some try it.
The more cynical would say it is just another fad to sell us more shoes
