The line may be open, but have Network Rail or the BBC dragged Chinley out of the Hope Valley and back to where it belongs?
According to the BBC, a landslide closed the railway between Manchester and Sheffield.
The slide was between New Mills and Chinley
It must have been a very bad landslide as Chinley is now in the Hope Valley!

There is a local saying that an inch of rain puts 5 inches on the lake.

That's about what you've got in those photos.
Paddy, I also remember Windermere freezing over. However, not to the depth your Grandfather remembered it!
It got to about 10 inches at the edges and about 1 inch in the middle in 1982/3.
We didn't walk on it, we punted about in a canoe.
There are photos in the "Lal Chippy" in Windermere, showing the Ice Fairs that used to happen on the lake.
There y'go Ben
