I am a keen tent camper, ranging from lugging mass amounts of gear for a weekend away with frends to big campsites to 1 man and his backpack wild camping. Each has its pros and cons. I generally trawl the internet for the latest gadets to lightweight equiptement  and have seen a few videos about hammock and tarp camping. I presume this would be even lighter than some tents but also I secretly like the idea of having to learn and put your nights sleep in the hands of the knots you've tied.

Anyhoo. I can't really find much information about this type of camping in and arround britain. from good places to go to any equiptment that people actually use.

I guess I'm just askeing to see if anyone has any information about camping this way in britain and anythings i really need to know.

I am planning a wild camp trip for 2 days and 2 nights in Dartmoor on my own, as i'm still new to wild camping I have some noobie type questions.

Firstly I have read and understand all the law behind Wild Camping, (one of the reasons I've chosen Dartmoor as a place to begin) and very much like the idea of leave everything as you entered philosophy.

I have An OS map of dartmoor and I will only be walking South of tavistock and Poundsgate to steer clear of the firing ranges.

Is it as simple as park your car and walk in any direction you want, or are the specific paths you have to keep to? I think people tend to camp off the footpaths but is it a case of you standing at the bottom of a hill and you can walk up in anyway you like of you, meaning when its evening you can just stop and make your camp.

Are there any areas on the OS map which you are not allowd to just put up your tent and in that case, how can I easily identify them.

If anyone has some good campsites they use could they let me know, send me a message if you dont want the whole world knowing.

I'm sure these may be silly questions or if you think there are other thinks i should note or prepare fore any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm of the opinion Knowledge doesn't weight anything so the more I can take with me the better my experience will be.

Awsome, thanks, I'm going to do my first 'wildcamp' in dartmoor end of September which I think may be a better option as I prefer the idea of walking up with no one around a making it appear like I was never there. SO thanks for the info.
