Jon perhaps the lack of questions comes down to a lack of awareness. Take me for instance. I've heard of the BMC. I've even had flyers inviting me to join. But what's the advanatge/relevance? I'm a fell walker. If I were still trekking I'd use their insurance perhaps but what else. Hell I didn't even know they sold stuff.
Given some of the recue stories you hear on here maybe they should be involved in the development and support of MRT teams especially with the new private company taking over air rescue soon.
Somehow they should be getting the message across to the public about the level of respect required to climb a proper peak such as Snowdon or Helvellyn. Proper clothing and how the weather can change rapidly. There are too may stories of numpties venturing on to the fells in T-shirts and jeans and little else.
Do they have any links with places like Plas Y Brenin? Sorry my ignorance of what they do now inhibits my ability to ask many questions.
Actually Captain Blacks sell 66N stuff but you're right it is unusal to see good quality stuff in Millets. I was surprised to see some quality stuff in the Millets store in Stamford. HH was the only one I definitely remember and it wasn't their baselayer range either. Jackets if I remember rightly.
Snow & Rock in Covent garden had some bargains for winter gear some of it up to 40% off. I picked up a Norrona Lotofen PL100 for just over £150, down from £280. I'd have loved to buy the OR down jacket reduced from £285 by 40%.
