It seems like only regular posters here are entitled to an opinion without some kind of 'shut up and stop moaning mr hysterical' type retribution? (Which I still think is wierd coming from someone who hides his identity so well) So much for a supportive social network.
There's two things different in this case which had caused me to make the first posting;
Firstly, this isn't the first time said product/brand/whatever has come into the country and then established outwards from a sole retailer. For whatever reason the entire Golite distribution network has collapsed from what i can see, leaving freedom of choice and product knowledge 'reduced' to someone 'who may, or may not' have experience that 'I as a potential consumer' can respect .... we all know what salesmen are like.
Secondly, ULO has always undercut everyone else on Golite products and yes this allows the consumer (ie me) to have freedom of choice, and yet now they are now heralded suddenly as a vision of RRP virtue? Gawd bless 'em! What lovely people!!
Finally, the fact the brand itself has gone off message is well recorded and I thank those who filled in my obvious lack of knowledge over whats been happening this last 6 months or so.
Ultimately as a result of all this, yes I will be taking my money and my favour elsewhere.
Thanks everyone for their input in answering my question.
I've spent the last few days reading the back stories to this 'deal' and not only am I dissapointed that Golite have now gone Goheavy, I'm more dissapointed by the ethics of the company, who obviously have absolutely no interest in the consumer not matter how 'pretty' they dress up their PR.
The last post by Huskyman hits the nail on the head.
Such a shame.
I suppose it also means that if I need any repairs of my current Golite gear I'm screwed too?
LOL!!! That's a bit rich coming from a transvestite
I mean to say, you're a guy using a woman's name, who makes and sells outdoor gear to people and use a toy as an avatar? And you expect to be taken seriously?
And YOU call me hysterical? You're clearly 'hiding from reality' mate in a BIG way
But fair points have been made here about Golite and it looks like the consumers around the world have found a voice on the Internet. Go Heavy it now appears to be, and I don't care how 'nice' ULO appear to be, I suspect there's a deal been done. Jeeez I bet all the old retailers feel screwed by all this?
No matter. That blog link makes a good point supported by Glen Van Pesky, so I'll search for another brand who delivers what they initially set out to do.
Any cottage manufactures in Europe doing anything good? I've read about a German brand but they don't seem to be commercially available yet. Are we stuck with American imports still?
