What is the best way to store a Silva type 4 compasses. 6 of them.

I have been given the job of looking after them. Up to now 6 of them have been in a plastic bag and left on a shelf.

There was always a high turnover of them but now in tougher times need to ensure that they last the 5 years.

Is an empty biscuit tin bad?..Can they be stored on top of each other?...Do they have to be stored on their side..Do they need something bouncy between them

Any help or suggestion appreciated

HSE inspector John Crookes said  "Any fuel needed for the trip should have been taken in containers incorporating a safety cut-off valve and kept away from ignition sources"

Hi

Could anyone point me in the direction of one of those bottles with a safety cut off valve.

Thanks
