Just read the resurected post about Nikwax for boots and how many people believe it was not as good as the original.

What are your thoughts and experiences with the new 'lasts up to 5x longer' TX11.1.

My personal experience is that it does seem more effective at keeping the outer shell beading water, and apparently is more robust than i imagined.

I recently decided to treat my Paramo Val to a wash in of this new stuff. In retrospect It didnt really need reproofing as it was performing great - beading water and keeping me dry in the worst of weather. Anyhow I was keen to give this new stuff a try and gave it a techwash and added the new version TX 11.1.

The result was a much much more waxy look and feel to the jacket. Great I thought. But upon using it I felt it no longer had the same wicking or 'pumping' qualities when I exerted myself a bit and started to sweat.

I remembered reading somewhere that you could over wax the product by using too much TX or over time it could build up and was easily remedied by washing it all out with a non-bio detergent and starting from scratch.

I presumed I had over treated it and saturated it with wax so I thought I would clean it all off and start again.

Non Bio Techwash Tx Direct wash in.

With nothing to loose I popped it in the washing machine with some Persil non bio 40 degree wash.

Well washed using detergent I removed it from the machine to inspect it prior to techwashing.

Well here is the strange bit - it beaded water perfectly straight from the machine. After washing in detergent! Ok I thought perhaps I didnt use enough detergent to remove the wax (or didn't I put enough in?). So having nothing much better to do thought I would wash it again in more detergent and see what happened.

Result - exactly the same.

At this point I just gave up and decided to dry the smock and wear it. Well its perfectly waterproof and breathable.

Just wondering if this new stuff is much more durable and why detergent didnt seem to remove it, or had I just so over waxed it that it did not remove it all?

I wonder does this now mean I can save on Techwash?

Thanks AT. That looks an interesting meet up. I will keep a look out for arrangements and what is happening and see if it is possible to make it closer to the date.

Fine sentiments indeed Salmom.

William Blake is also a favourite of mine.

Perhaps now I shall go 'wander lonely as a cloud'

throught snow thats still ont hills

and  perhaps avoid the crowds

and the walking daffodils

Hello Salmon, difficult to answer that question really (without admitting it)

Do I posess some flowery shirts? Hmmm

Well as the poet Charles Boudelaire saw it  "Les Fleurs du mal".

Thinking about it on a deeper level - perhaps flowery shirts posess me?

So I try to avoid them at the moment.

He, he

I can see you have a fine taste though.

Thanks for the welcomes. Hope I can contribute to the forum and share in my love for the outdoors. It is good to find so many like minded people here.

I have really just started to find my way around and if i am honest  I am not totally familiar with this forum stuff.

Its great to get a welcome though so once again - thanks.
