PHD Piqolo down bag

Posted: 05 September 2006
Overall: Having used the bag in a number of different conditions I’ve been really pleased with it. As a summer weight bag it’s great, you’re kept just at the right temperature. I’ve used it on nights when it’s been 16C and never felt too hot in it. I do tend to sleep on the warm side.

I’ve also used it on nights of 5C in a tent in very strong winds, which meant it felt more like 0C outside with the winds creeping under the flysheet of the tent. This was too much for it to handle but with the addition of a silk liner and Rab Survival Zone Bivi Bag, which I would always take if using a down bag and Rohan Merino Wool thermals I managed to get a good nights sleep.

There’s an amazing amount of loft for such little fill, the fabric is very comfy and it’s easy to get into and out of despite not having a zip. It really comes into it’s own when backpacking, the weight and compressibility are impressive. The occasional feather sticks through the outer but these can be pulled back in without problem.

Overall a cracking versatile bag for late spring to early autumn use, if used in conjunction with a bivi bag and liner.

I Purchased the bag from PHD when they were having their summer sale for £76 rather than the full RRP.
