Just a quick reminder that Extreme Ironing is on the box again
tonight in a Channel 4 documentary called, erm, Extreme Ironing.
• If you need to set your video becasue it's past your bedtime, the programme starts at
10.35pm and finishes at 11.40.
The documentary follows the progress of the Rowenta-sponsored
British team in the recent world championships held near Münich.
If you haven't been following the sport, we won't spoil things by
telling you what happened.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the whole thing is the way
that the national meeja have grabbed hold of what's, let be honest,
is really an extended practical joke with legs, and swallowed the
bait hook, line and sinker often without a trace of, erm, irony.
Today's Guardian TV pages for example, describe the protagonists
as 'a group of athletes' and other serious papers have railed against
the 'sport' as if it actually matters. You can read a cross section
of the media coverage on the Extreme
Ironing web site and catch our ironic exclusive which will appear
here shortly.
