Climbers In Cultural Spectacular

By Jon

Seems like climbing and culture can mix after all - the proof is Australian company Legs On The Wall who are performing in Manchesters as part of the pre-Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Described as 'aerial ballet', the 40-minute programme features 'climbers, abseilers and dancers' on the side of the 25-storey, 100-metre high Premier Lodge building off Deansgate in the centre of Manchester.

'Homeland' is about migration and refugees and 'the struggle to be accepted into a new and alien society and the building of a multi-cultural society' and accompanied by music and enormous projections onto the wall.

Sounds mad and spectacular. If you're in the North West and want to take it in, performances are at 11.30pm on Monday, and at 10pm and 11.30pm on both Tuesday and Wednesday. More details of the programme at www.streetsahead.org.uk. More about Legs On The Wall on their own web site.

Oh, and it's FREE too.

Official instructions: 'To see the show, stand in Exchange Sq (Near Marks & Spencer) or on Deansgate, near Manchester Cathedral. The road will be closed from 9.45pm until 10 minutes after the end of the show and again at 11.15pm for the second performance each night.'
