Moor Surveys For The Peak

If you're out in the Peak Distirct and find yourself collared by a clipboard-wielding research person, don't panic, they're not delving into your freakish shopping habits, but conducting the second part of a major visitor survey on behalf of the Moors For The Future project.

The survey is aimed at gathering more information about how visitors use the Peak moors. In the words of Catherine Flitcroft, Moors for the Future Research Manager:

"This unique visitor survey will record the nature of the public's visit to the moors and their awareness of a range of management issues.

"This valuable information will help advise on the best ways to communicate with visitors and to help protect moorland habitats and wildlife into the future."

Visitors will be asked to complete a short questionnaire at 14 key selected access points across the area and given a more extensive post-back questionnaire to fill in later, with a £50 prize draw incentive to get them writing.

The first phase of the surveys took place last year and will be repeated three times this year; now, September and December. The results will be compiled into a report and used to improve infortmation for visitors to the moors in future.
