Ladies and Gentlemen, hikers and climbers, bimblers and adventure racers, we would like to announce that the renowned, the prestigious (blah blah) September Photo of the Month competition has now come to an end. Yes, it's that sock time of the month again, when Bridgedale starts handing out clean, dry, non-smelly footwear to OUTDOORSmagic's best photographers.
We changed the procedure slightly this month, so that the competition winner gets three pairs of socks and the other two go to the runner-up. (Five pairs of socks sounds a bit indulgent after all.) The change of rules almost failed to make any difference though, as Neil Higgins nearly carried off both prizes in one fell swoop with his photos of Windermere at Sunset and Buttermere. (Or does that count as two fell swoops?) Anyway, he was pipped on the line for the runner up prize (and almost for the top spot as well) by Martin Edwards, whose photo of wild camping amassed a mighty 31 votes in six days. Well done to both. We reckon they'll shortly be good people to go wild camping with as they'll have some nice clean socks ready to put on so that the tent doesn't smell:-)

Competitions aside, what's new in the gallery this week? Well, our round-up starts with the latest addition to one of OM's best known albums. It's Andy Wallace's Share the Fell Walking Experience album - and yes, we're starting to feel a little predictable saying that every week. Still, it's a great album, so what can we do? If you haven't visited it before, get comfortably settled with a nice cup of tea and expect to stick in its pages for a while...

Next up, the flow of Dolomites photos hasn't dried up yet, so here are a couple more so intensify the regret of anyone who hoped to fit in a few Via Ferrata this summer but didn't quite make it. You can browse the
Brenta Dolomites album for more rock, snow, cables, and lots of smiles from a very happy mountaineer. It looks like someone enjoyed their holiday:-)

Finally, here's a lesson in how to make waterfalls - and rusty gates - look enticing. For more Lakeland hillsides, knife edge ridges, and helicopter rescues, visit Adrian Fortune's Lake District album.

That's it folks. Remember that all OM members have 3 MB of free space in the gallery, so keep uploading those photos. As usual, there'll be another Photo of the Month competition running throughout October. Simply upload your photo to the gallery and it will automatically be part of the competition. Whoever's pic clocks up the most votes will win three pairs of Bridgedale socks, with a further two pairs going to the runner up. Clean, dry feet? Mmmm, lovely.
