What's claimed to be the world's first real indoor ice wall is one
of the features at the new Outdoor
Experience interactive outdoor store which opened in Glasgow on
27 May. There's also a storm chamber to simulate Scottish winter
conditions - surely easier to just step outside eh? - a 40-foot
indoor climbing pinnacle, a rock path for testing boots and a torch
testing room (clue; it's dark).
It's all part of a mega two-floor retail extravaganza which also
incorporates a rocky mountain bike test track, café, bookshop
and lecture theatre. The outdoor shop section is run by Scottish gear
guys Tisos, who first pioneered the idea of an interactive store in
the UK in Leith.
The six-metre ice wall is part of the Gore Windstopper Chillzone
where chill factor of minus 20-degrees C and winds up to 20mph can be
simulated. Why go outside at all?
