Non-Pong Silver Summer Sock From Brasher

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

With the sweltering days of summer almost upon us - sacrifice one goat, a packet of Kendal Mint Cake and a trekking pole to guarantee - the guys over at Brasher have come up with a new sock which they say is both breathable and non ponging.

Like the Salomon adventure racing sock we've been impressed with over the past year, Brasher's 1 x 1 season sock uses a combination of high-wicking Coolmax fibres with X-Static yarn. The latter is coated with silver, which inhibits the growth of odour-generating bacteria without releasing chemicals into the environment, hence no pong.

We haven't used the Brasher sock yet, but we've seen and felt it and it's a thinnish item, designed for summer conditions. Like we say, the Salomon sock using similar technology works well both for wicking and multi-day, non-pong use and we'd expect the Brasher sock to be similar.

So is there a drawback? Silver isn't cheap so the socks, available in four adult sizes, cost £8 per pair, though they do come with a one-year guarantee. For stockist details, either call 0191 516 5780 or check out the Brasher web site.
