Hinkes Backs Indoors 8000-metre Charity Climbs

By Jon

Top high altitude mountaineer Alan Hinkes is working with a charity called WaterAid on a new national fundraising event named after his quest to climb all 14 of the 8,000 metre plus peaks.

Challenge 8000 is going to take place on 29 November at 14 climbing walls throughout the country, each of which will adopt one of the 8000-metre peaks for the event. The aim is for participants to try and scale enough vertical metres to successfully 'climb' the mountain.

WaterAid is the UK's only charity dedicated to the provision of safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education for the world's poorest people - currently two fifths of the world's people (2.4 billion) do not have effective sanitation.

You can get more details from this page on the Berghaus web site, by checking out the WaterAid site or by phoning 0845 120 1293.

• Alan is also about to embark on a lecture tour of the UK, see previous OM articles below for full details.
