A quick after burp from the recent Harrogate Go Outdoors trade
show where outdoor food specialists Wayfayrer held a competition in
search of new suggestions for ready meals.
Curiously the OUTDOORSmagic suggestions of South American
specialities like cuy with deep fried yukka - that's guinea pig by
the way - baked alaska and rook and raspberry ripple came nowhere and
the eventual winner was scandalously Diane Walsh from Out and About
in Harrogate.
Diane's suggestions included Tuna Pasta, Ratatouille and Treacle
Pudding - I ask you, where's the fun in that? How about fishfingers
and marmite soldiers or steak tartar? Anyway, Diane won a Vango Fury
performance daysac for her suggestions and the Wayfayrer development
team will be looking at making her ideas into reality.
Meanwhile, and perhaps more interestingly, Wayfayrer have a new
self-heating meal option. For £4.99 all in you get a standard
meal plus a heating bag unit which takes ten minutes to get your meal
up to edible temperatures.
It's all based on US military technology and will be available in
shops from early next year. Interesting idea because while Wayfayrer
meals, which are 'wet' and packed in a foil sachet are relatively
heavy, using the self-heating option will, of course mean you no
longer need carry a stove.
