New 8000-metre Peak Discovered

Who says exploration is dead? In a Shiptonesque moment, an expedition led by OM editor the Viscount Doran has stumbled across a hitherto unknown 8,000 metre peak in the Lake District.

Katsti Kham - sacred mountain of the people
of the Glenn-Ri-Ding valley

Doran and his trusty Sherpa had just completed a traverse of the notoriously extreme Stry-Ding Arete on Helvelyn and were descending to safety when the mists cleared and the monstrous peak appeared rearing over them.

Although not shown on maps, the mountain has been positively identified as Katsti Kham, 8021 metres, the existence of which has been rumoured for years. The peak is thought to be sacred to the local tribes people of the Glenn-Ri-Ding valley who refuse to set foot on it between the holy days of Krist-Maas and Y-A-Star.

Viscount Doran is applying for a grant from the RGS to allow further exploration of this remote and fearsome mountain.
