Hinkes To Announce Next Peak At Show

By Jon

Yorkshire mountaineer Alan Hinkes, who is now just two summits away from becoming the first Brit' to knock off all 14 of the 8,000-metre plus peaks, is going to announce his next objective at this weekend's OS Outdoors Show in Birmingham.

After succeeding on Annapurna last year in distinctly dodgy conditions that saw no less a climber than Ed Viesturs back off from the mountain, Alan has a choice of Dhaulagiri - not to be confused with the better known, similar sounding cocktail - and Kangchenjunga.

Given that last time he tackled Kangch', he fell in a crevasse suffering rib injuries, we're guessing that Dhaulagiri will be next on the list - but only because we have a 50/50 chance of being correct. Anyway, we'll be grilling Alan at the show and letting you know what he's decided.

Hinkes At The Show

Along with fellow Berghaus Team members Sir Chris Bonington and Leo Houlding, Alan's going to be appearing at the Super Theatre - see the show web site for full details - and with the rest of the team, he'll also be popping up a regular intervals on the Berghaus stand to sell and sign posters, videos, books etc chat and buy beer for all comers (no, not really).

In addition, Berghaus have arranged a question and answer session with Sir Chris Bonington on the stand at 2.15 on Saturday afternoon. It's our chance to ask probably the best known living British mountaineer all those big and not so big questions that have been burning holes in our mental pockets for ages.

For more details about Alan, see his profile on the Berghaus web site. For Bonington info see the Berghaus site or his own site at bonington.com.
