New Berghaus Extrem Packs Out In May

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

Berghaus is launching its re-vamped autumn / winter 03 range of Extrem packs early, next month in fact and we've got full details of the three new sacs in the range plus updates to the existing Expedition and Slipstream rucksacs here.

The new 45-litre Extrem Crag though. looks like being a cracker of a climbing sac. Fully tooled up it weighs in at an okay-ish 1.656 kg including a malleable back plate, the 'Verteplate', hip-belt and full lid.

But if you're a weight weenie you can simply discard all those bits and, erm, the 17-gramme chest strap to reduce the weight of the still 'fully functional' sac to just 0.92 kg. Expect to see discarded lids, hip belts and back plates all over a hill near you soon. And just so you know what you're dealing with when you find a Verteplate in the grass, here's what all those bits look like...
