Sir Ranulph Fiennes, once apparently dubbed the world's greatest
explorer by the Guinness Book of Records, has undergone heart bypass
surgery after collapsing with a heart attack at Bristol Airport on
Saturday evening.
His condition was described by Bristol Royal Infirmary as
'critical but stable' after he underwent surgery and he is in
intensive care.
Fiennes now 59, is best known for his polar exploration epics, but
is also an active adventure racer with a level of fitness that's the
envy of men half his age. In his personal
profile on the Sleepmonsters adventure race site, his best result
is listed as an impressive 14th place finish in Eco Challenge
Patagonia.
According to the Times, Fiennes was massively aware of the dangers
of heart disease
Best wishes to Ranulph and his friends and family for a speedy
recovery.
