Here's an unmissable date for your diaries - ooops, nearly wrote
dairies there - the gala premiere of the new film of Touching The
Void is going to be at this year's Kendal Mountain Film Festival
between the 13th and 16th of November.
Everything we've read and heard about the dramatic documentary
reconstruction of Simpson's epic story of near death in the Andes has
been positive, and the author himself will be there to introduce the
first showing of the film. Even better, it'll be shown repeatedly
right through the festival, so everyone should get a chance to see
it.
The 'Void' premiere should be just the icing on the cake of one of
the world's top three mountain film festivals. Presented by Berghaus
and the Northwest Development Agency, Kendal has grown fivefold over
the last four years and the combination of mountain films, lectures,
art, workshops and events pulls in visitors from all over the
world.
And all the signs are that this year's will be one of the best
ever.
Festival Director, John Porter, says: 'This November we have one
of the most exciting line up of films and speakers that we have ever
seen, and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first ascent
of Everest will be quite exceptional. The Kendal Mountain Film
Festival is really making a name for itself internationally, not only
for the quality of the event, but also as the place to come for
inspiration and entertainment.'
We'll be bringing you more detailed information on the festival
over the next few months, but for further info now, just mosey on over
to www.mountainfilm.co.uk.
Tickets will be available from August from the Brewery Arts Centre in
Kendal, tel 01539 725133.
