OM regulars might recall that we recently commented on the
difficulty of opening the battery compartment on Petzl's neat new Myo
head torch.
We found that the arrow on the battery box is aligned confusingly
and makes the lid of the box hard to open, if you pull horizontally
instead, it's much easier. Since we published the article,
UK Petzl importers Lyon Equipment have been in touch with a couple of
suggestions.
One is that our sample was from a pre-production test pool and
that production samples have been re-jigged and are now need less
pressure to open them. The other point they make is that the battery
box lid features a small projection to the left of the wire entry,
which is there specifically so you can use, say, the pick of an ice
axe for more leverage if the box gets iced up or your hands are
slippery.
Using the OM nail clippers on this projection proved the point and
to be fair, it's marked clearly in the information sheet that comes
with every Myo. So what are we saying? Briefly, so far we've found
the Myo to work well and it's definitely an improvement on the
clunky, slightly dated Zoom. If you are having problems with opening
the battery box, they're not insurmountable and combination of
changing the direction of pull together with use of the nobbly
projection should see you right.
It's a storm in a battery box ;-)
