Live From Everest, 1953...

Here's one for you diary if you're a Lakes dweller or planning to be up that way on Friday 8 August, which for those of you who are calendar-ly challenged is next Friday.

The National Mountaineering Exhibition at Rheged is hosting a 1953 Everest Lecture with three members of the original team appearing as guest speakers. George Lowe, Mike Westmacott and George Band all played critical roles in the first ascent of the world's highest mountain and this is a chance to hear about what happened from people who were actually there, on the mountain, at the time.

Tickets cost £17.50 and include free entry to the Helly Hansen National Mountaineering Exhibition. An optional supper is available for £5.00 (please pre-book), and lecture ticket holders can also attend a special showing of the large screen movie EVEREST, at a reduced rate of £3.90. Finally, George Band will also be signing copies of his critically acclaimed new book - 50 Years At The Top Of The World.

Tickets are available through the box office or on 01768 860005 book early to avoid disappointment. The lecture starts at 8.30pm.
