OM Edale Meet-Up - 10-12 October

By Jon

A quick update on the autumn OUTDOORSmagic member Meet-Up in the Peak District, which is happening the weekend after next which is 10-12 October.

The venue is Edale in the middle of the Peak District. It's a beautiful village located conveniently under Kinder Scout and, just as importantly is accessible by road, but also by rail from either Manchester or Sheffield. See Network Rail for timetables.

Accommodation After much debate on the forum, we're going to be staying at the Coopers campsite right in the middle of Edale giving easy access to the pub of choice, the Nag's Head. Basic details and contact number here but no need to book.

It's right in the middle of Edale close to the Nag's Head. Simply head past the station and the alternative Fieldhead campsite and into the village, the campsite is near the pub.

What's Happening OM Meet-Ups are informal get-togethers for OM members. Everyone's welcome to come along, put names to faces and faces to names. It's not an organised, guided weekend, we get together as a group of friends, go walking, climbing, scrambling, feed ducks etc. No-one will tell you what to do.

There's lots to do around Edale though. Fantastic walking on Kinder and elsewhere in the Edale valley including the classic Edale Skyline circuit and some very nice rocks. Climbing on classic gritstone crags like Stanage and Froggatt and, if you're that way inclined, some of the best mountain biking in the country.

In addition there are at least two caffs - one at the campsite and the infamous Station Caff - plus a couple of pubs in Edale as well as extra back-up in Hope, also home to the classic Woodbine Cafe and the Cheshire Cheese, which does excellent food.

When Most people tend to turn up on the Friday evening and head for the pub. Organisation tends to be on the chaos principle, but somehow we always seem to meet up and enjoy ourselves.

What next There's more information on this forum thread, but if you are thinking of coming, please post on the roll call thread linked to below. It doesn't commit you to anything, it gives everyone an idea of who's coming. See you there :-)
