Convert Standard Bottles Into A Hydration System

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

We like hydration systems a lot - they're a great way to stay, well, hydrated - but they can be a bit of a hassle.

Which is why the new SmarTube from Calange looks interesting. It's a screw-on hydration tube complete with bite valve, tube and cap which fits onto the top of standard, disposable beverage bottles.

So, you can buy a bottle of mineral water, screw on the tube, stick it in your pack and hey, instant drinking solution. Obviously you could also use it to drink cola, soft drinks and from any other bottle with a compatible thread, which could be interesting.

One big plus is that you don't have to clean and sterilise a bladder and if your bottle breaks, you can just throw it away - ooops, recycle it - and get a new one. To get a copy of the latest Calange brochure just phone 0161 474 7097 or see the web site.

How do these things work?

Bladders collapse as the liquid is sucked out of them. Surely something that has the capability to use a 'normal bottle' would need a second tube going in there to allow air to replace the liquid as it's drunk...

Wow, My Coke Bottle Is A Hydration System...
A new drinking tube allows you to convert pretty much any soft drinks bottle into a handy hydration system and will shortly fit Sigg bottles too, but does it work and is it worth the dosh?
