The film version of Joe Simpson's epic Touching The Void has been
nominated for a BAFTA
award.
The dramatic and visceral docu drama was directed by Kevin Macdonald,
who previously won an Oscar for his documentary about the Münich
Olympic massace, and has been nominated for The Alexander Korda Award
for Outstanding British Film of the Year .
It's up against serious competition from the likes of Cold
Mountain, Love Actually and Girl With A Pearl Earring, but just being
nominated is a major achievement and reflects the amount of work that
went into making the film.
It was made over a period of two years, with film crews shooting
on location both on Siula Grande in Peru, where the original epic
took place, and in dire conditions in the Alps, to produce some of
the most realistic and gripping climbing sequences we're seen on a
cinema screen.
You can read our review of the film here,
from which you'll gather that we reckon it's well worth seeing. Take

The Awards will be hosted for the fourth time by Stephen Fry and
will take place on Sunday 15 th February at the Odeon, Leicester
Square and broadcast on BBC ONE.
