The acclaimed drama documentary of Joe Simpson's Andean epic,
Touching The Void has won an Orange British Academy Film Award or
BAFTA.
The astonishing film, directed by Oscar-winner Kevin Macdonald won
the Alexander Korda Award for the best British film of the year
beating the likes of Cold Mountain in the process.
The
Times said the film was a 'surprise winner' but added that it was
'justifiably' so and that it 'faced some of the stiffest and most
expensive competition on offer, including Cold Mountain and Love
Actually.'
The FT meanwhile said the award was one of the most popular of the
evening and suggested that it might now 'be given a second wind at
cinemas'.
Here on OM, all we can add, having scooped the world to a first
review on the site, is congratulations to everyone involved in the
making of the film and particularly Brian Hall and his climbing
filming experts who produced some of the most realistic and gripping
mountaineering sequences seen on the big screen. Nice one.
