New from the guys at Berghaus is a range of accessories dubbed
'Accessables' which should be appearing in a shop near you some time
about now.

Hard-shelled camera case will
mount easily
to either vertical or horizontal
webbing.
|
There are 16 products in the full range, from camera and GPS cases
through to rucksac liners and a dry-bag. All have been designed
specifically for the rough and tumble of serious outdoor use, it says
here, and are designed to protect your valuables from the ravages of
stroppy British mountains. while still keeping them, erm,
accessible.
We've already got a couple of items from the range for assessment
and they look good. One is a neat camera case made using a semi-rigid
shell for protection and with a 'spring-open' zip-top, erm, opening.
Along with the normal webbing straps you'd expect, Berghaus has also
come up with a neat innovation in the form of the 'Opti Buckle'. It's
a neat, clamp down, locking plastic clip that can be used to fasten
the case to any length of 25mm wide webbing in either the vertical or
horizontal plane.
Clip-on, clif-off, it really is a piece of genius, particularly if
you've wrestled with the hassle of clipping a camera case to, say, a
rucksac shoulder strap in the past. And if you want to mount it on a
different pack, it's a matter of seconds to clip and unclip the
case.

'Opti Buckle' can be used to clip
the case
quickly and easily. Very cunning...
|
It feels robust too, so should take the odd scrambling knock or
mountain bike stack, plus tucked away is a nice little rain cover -
think miniaturised pack cover and you'll get the idea. Price is 18
squid for the larger of the two camera cases and 16 for the smaller
version.
Less obviously exciting, but promisingly useful, is the Accessable
large-sized pack liner for £14. Fitting sacs up to 70 litres,
it's a bloody great waterproof rip-stop Nylon bag complete with
external taped seams to resist abrasion from the contents and, for
good measure, a roll-over, waterproof dry bag-style top closure.
Weight is just under 140 grammes, which is a small price to pay
for keeping your pack load dry and it feels tough and well made. We
reckon it's going to be a big hit with everyone from backpackers to
climbers.
