The National Trust is opening a brand new 'basecamp' at the foot
of Snowdon this summer.
A what? There are 32 basecamps across the UK, all of them are
purpose-built or converted buildings on National Trust property and
are ideal for groups looking for simple, self-catering accommodation
in beautiful locations across the UK. They'd be spot on for walkers
and climbers we reckon and are equipped with cooking facilities and
dorms with bunk beds as well as lounge areas and modern sanitation,
so you won't be roughing it.
The new basecamp is at Craflyn Hall in North Wales. It's located
in the Nantgynant Valley at the foot of Snowdon and can accommodate
12 people in the basecamp building and a further 23 at the hall
itself.
A quick search of the NT
basecamp web page reveals other basecamp sites near Ambleside, at
Wasdale, in the North Yorks Moors and close to the Brecon Beacons.
You can get more details and send of an enquiry form on the web site,
alternatively call 0870 458 4000. Bookings go towards helping the NT
care for special places, it says here.
