Mountain Equipment Wins Euro Award

Gear news in association with

There are some happy, smiling faces over at Manchester-based Mountain Equipment after their new Moonwalker sleeping bags scooped a European award for best outdoor product of the year.

The top of the range Moonwalker, which was launched in the UK earlier this year, is the latest in ME's range of synthetically-filled sleeping bags. The filling is Polarguard Delta, which uses continuous hollow core filaments for performance which is claimed to be lighter, more durable and more thermally efficient than any other Polarguard filling. The fibres are larger in diameter than before with more hollow space inside enabling them to trap more air.

The top notch filling is coupled with other ME hallmark features, among them the EXL system, which uses a gently elasticated internal liner to hug the sleeper and increase comfort, aand efficiency by eliminating gaps and cold spots, 3D neck collar and countoured hood plus ME's 'Shark's Toe' foot section where the upper bag is 5cm longer than the lower allowing a more natural resting foot position. And yes, we know that sharks don't have toes any more than fish have fingers...

There's also a water repellant treated, superfine outer fabric for increased weight saving in a range of bags from the Moonwalker 1, rated down to -5C for comfort and weighing in at 1115 grammes to the Moonwalker IV which weighs 2020 grammes and is comfortable down to -18C. Prices range from £110 to £180.

If you ever visit Romania do not hesitate to spend 7 days in Piatra Craiului Mountains. You will be delighted to discover "THE TIARA" of Romanian Carpathians and "The limestone mountain accident" as Emm. de Martonne described.

It is close to Bran Castle Known as Dracula Castle

See you in Crai (short name for Piatra Craiului) on marked or unmarked trails.
