We've heard it all now, The North Face is about to launch a
limited edition of its classic Nuptse down jackets with, wait for it,
each jacket individually numbered to 'give the customer a more
personalised feel' it says here.
There
will be only 1,000 of the limited edition Quantum Nuptses earmarked
for Europe as a whole and just 275 of them will be coming to the UK
where they'll be available from only two stockists.
Full Of Geese...
So what makes them different from a standard issue Nuptse? First
of all it uses Pertex 15-denier Quantum rip-stop, ultra-lightweight
fabric to help cut overall weight, then there's the down, which is a
special Hungarian variant exclusive to TNF.
With a fill power of 900 it's one of the most expandable
insulators on the market and in short supply since it comes from a
limited number of Hungarian grey geese. It's 99 per-cent pure with
less than one per-cent feather and stems.
The result is a jacket claimed be 'the lightest, most compressible
down jacket of its kind'. It also has a taffeta emergency hood for
unexpected weather and taffeta reinforcement to the shoulders.
Mmmmm... Sexy.
"It's light, soft and very sexy," says Keith Byrne of TNF, "so
with just 275 available we expect to be overwhelmed by the demand for
it."
The TNF Quantum Nuptse will be available in September from Ellis
Brigham and Snow and Rock at a price of £185. Good news for
everyone except Hungarian grey geese we reckon...
