Brit' In Mont Blanc Storm Tragedy

A British climber has been involved in a tragic Mont Blanc epic in the course of which his climbing partner died.

ITV News is reporting that Edward Allen, 49, from Fairford, Gloucestershire, was attempting western Europe's highest peak with his German climbing partner when they were caught out in a ferocious storm forcing them to dig a snowhole to survive.

High winds made it impossible for helicopter rescuers to to reach them and they spent three nights sheltering in temperatures as low as minus 20. Tragically Allen's climbing partner apparently succumbed to hypothermia a day before rescuers reached the pair.
