Top Banana!

By Jon

Mountain food doesn't come much better than the banana - a handy helping of carbohydrate and fructose with very little fat and a, well, banana-esqe taste. Unfortunately bananas come with a major design defect, they don't have hard shells.

Bruised Bananas - An International Problem...

To compound the problem, there are few things more disappointing than a blackened, bruised, weeping banana, which is where the Bananaguard comes in. It does pretty much what it says on the box being a handy lightweight protective case designed to fit the majority of bananas.

It's ventilated to guard against premature ripening, but otherwise provides full protection for your 'nana allowing it to be safely carried in your pack until the time of consumption after which you could always use the device to pack your banana skin back out again.

The Banaguard is dishwasher safe and comes in a variety of funky colours including an indispensible 'glow in the dark' variety that should appeal to paranoid hillwalkers everwhere. At £3.95 or £4.35 if you want luminosity it ain't cheap, but then it's come all the way from Canada where Banaguard UK's Chris Gray discovered the ultimate banana conserver lurking in Vancouver.

As a banana lover, Chris was captivated and is now importing the Bananguard to the UK. You can order online at www.bananaguard-uk.com or contact Chris by e-mail at info@bananaguard-uk.com.

What do you know. According to OM's news pages someone's importing the Banana Guard into the UK. I'm very disappoinrted as I'd seen these things in Vancouver after my PCT hike and was hoping to leave tgo and make my millions by importing them and flogging them myself!

Bought a couple while I was there and presented a big pink one to my mate Robert in Giggleswick who initially asked where the batteries went (calm down ladies!).

I've used mine to bring lunch to the tgo office for the last few weeks (can't afford more than a 'nana on these wages) and gotta say it's simple and it works (and it's light weight, just in case you were wondering).

I reckon it's make a grand stocking filler (with or without batteries).
