Pure genius from the guys over at PHD with the launch of their new
online design your own sleeping bag web
site.
It does just what it says on the box, allowing you to design your
own sleeping bag from the ground up. After logging on, you get a
choice of 'free' or 'guided' options and from there select the basic
design, weight of down and fill power.
After that you get to customise pretty much everything about the
bag from inner and outer fabrics and colour, through zip options,
draft tube configurations, and onto more advance options like bivvy
cowls, the type of cord used for closures, bag length, extra down
filling and more.
At
the end of it all, the software spits out a fully customised bag
which you can then order online from PHD using a secure server. Our
bag came out at £200, but that was with only 10 grammes of fill,
see below.
It's an absolutely fantastic idea and the only one of its kind
we've come across, though we've seen similar sites where you can
design your own bicycle.
We did encounter one minor issue using a Mac and that was a total
inability to have more than 10 grammes of filling in the bag...
Ooops, we're guessing that PC users will be warmer than us fashion
victim Apple users. If you have the same options, you could always
just contact PHD direct using their main
web site.
