Berghaus Boots And Sac Scoop

Gear news in association with
eVent Fabrics

We've already handed you the scoop on Berghaus latest clothing for later this year, but they've also been hard at work on their boots and packs, so we thought we'd bung you a quick taster of a couple of real stand-outs from those ranges.

They'll be in the shops later this year and we reckon they're looking rather good...

Super Lightweight Mountaineering Boot

The new Kibo GTX with a suggested price of £180 is aimed straight at the jugular of the technical mountain boot brands. It's a lightweight - 920 gramm - B2/C2 mountaineering boot that'll obviously take a C2 crampon for Scottish winter and alpine use.

There's a whole mix of materials in there too, ranging from reversed leather, Lorica synthetic leather, and abrasion-resistant and breathable Schoeller Keprotec fabric which incorporates hardcore Kevlar fibres and was orginally designed for use in astronaut's clothing. Really.

You also get classic components like a Gore-Tex liner and Vibram sole with EVA mid-sole along with a full rubber rand for grip and durability plus a double tongue for comfort and a combined speed and differential lacing system.

It all looks state of the art and is a bit of a departure for Berghaus. Pleasingly available in women's version as well. Mountaineering boot performance at trekking boot weight?

And A New Streamlined Climbing Pack

Also new and technical is the Duel pack. It's a new 35-littre, slimline design which follows on from the Crag in being totally strippable for reduced weight. In full spec it's 1500 grammes, but you can remove bits from belts and back system to trim it down to 1000 grammes only.

Feature points include easy access to the main compartment through a two-zip panel, tough Ardura 600 fabric, a. erm, 'reflective lighthouse capability', we think that means it's reflective plus gear loops, ice axe holders, compression straps and hydrdation sleeve.

It is, says Berghaus, a bit of a do it all sac that you could also use for general walking and scrambling. Best of all, the price is only £60, which means you're getting a lot of sac for your money. We like the look of this one, see pic below.
