Everest's burgeoning reputation as the place for odd feats gets
another boost with the news that three members of Northampron Saints
RFC are planning to play the highest game of touch rugby ever at
Everest Base Camp.
The three, Northampton Saints Academy coach Rob Hunter, board
director John Steele and former Saints player Jon Phillips, are
trekking to Base Camp in aid of 'Support Paraplegics In Rugby
Enterprise' - the official charity that assists players who have
suffered permanent total disability through rugby - and 'Show Racism
The Red Card'.
Once they reach the 5,400 metre odd patch of godforsaken morraine
beneath the world's highest peak, they will endeavour to play the
world's highest game of touch rugby and make it into the Guinness
Book of Records.
We can see a few stumbling blocks there, mostly large rocky ones,
but also some clods of ice together with a distinct lack of flat
ground, but worst of all, how can a two against one game possibly be
fair? Our money is on the two-man team.
Anyway, thanks to OMer Jeremy Hadall for the link. You can read
the full
story on the Northampton Saints web site which also has donation
details.
