 HILL SKILLS 30 / 08 / 05

Scramble, Scramble, Scramble :-)

Where does walking stop and scrambling start? For most of us it's that point where you have to start using your hands regularly to progress safely up the hill.

Where does climbing start? That's a more difficult one - the harder grades of scrambling aren't so very different from easy climbs and what you feel is an acceptable risk varies from person to person depending on nerve, ability and experience. Don't think that because something's a scramble, you don't need a rope...

More exhilarating than walking, less of a faff than pitched climbing, scrambling's great and it's something we've covered a lot in the past on OM, so to help you get started, here's a bucketload of links to past OM scramble routes, articles and gear tests, just scroll on down....

Remember, we publish a new scramble route ever other week.
